What separates us from the rest?

Our proven program isn’t about propping you up on a wave; rather, we’re here to provide you an education. Whether sharing our knowledge of surfing, waves, ocean conservation, surfboards, or competition, we’re with you during every step of your surfing life. Our ratio of friendly, skilled instructors to students is 1:4, ensuring plenty of individual attention. We offer residents and visitors alike an informative, unforgettable and fun experience. Our youth camps culminate in a pizza party, camp slideshow, and other giveaways including camp tee, discount card, stickers and professional surf photography.

No one is more qualified to operate a surf school than Jason Borte.

The Virginia Beach native enjoyed a successful career as a competitive surfer, culminating with the title of East Coast Pro Champion in 1997. But being a good surfer isn’t nearly enough. Jason holds a Masters Degree in Education and has been a Virginia Beach schoolteacher since 2009. As an author, he wrote the Kelly Slater autobiography Pipe Dreams as well as The Kook’s Guide to Surfing, the sport’s quintessential how-to book. He started his own surf school in 1998 and has operated camps all over the East Coast, sharing his love for the ocean with many thousands of participants. He has coached most of the top local competitors, including some who have gone on to their own pro careers. In 2016, he was inducted into the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame. Perhaps most importantly, Jason consistently gives back to the community. He founded Wave Warriors Surf Camp for injured soldiers, has volunteered with Surfer’s Healing VB, Life Rolls On, and has conducted free camps for foster children and low income families.
